EQUITABLE FOOD DISTRIBUTION

At Brooklyn Grange, we believe that farming in New York City is about more than growing food. It’s about cultivating a more equitable, connected, and resilient city - one where everyone has access to fresh, nourishing produce and the opportunity to feel a sense of belonging in their local food system.

In 2018, we began exploring creative ways to sustain the equitable distribution of our harvest, rooted in our belief that fresh, healthy food should be a right shared by all, rather than a privilege held by few. Today, this commitment is at the heart of our community work.

In 2025, we grew an estimated 74,975 pounds of produce across 4.7 acres of rooftop farms. Most importantly, we worked to ensure that this harvest reached the people and communities who need it most. 60% of our total annual yield was distributed to New Yorkers at no or low cost through our Food Equity Funding Partnerships and Sliding Scale CSA Program.

These programs are made possible through partnerships with community organizations already doing the essential work of caring for their neighbors. By listening to our partners and adapting what we grow and how we distribute it, we’re working to build a local food system that is more accessible, culturally relevant, and rooted in community.
