Curious to know what goes on in a beehive? Want to know how to tell the difference between a queen, a worker bee, and a drone?
Join beekeeper Tori Coleman as they inspect one of the farm’s rooftop hives! Discover what all of the buzz is about as Tori explains why honeybees are important pollinators, the thrills and challenges of urban beekeeping, and how you could get set up with your own beehive.
You’ll then suit up and get to observe a beehive inspection! We'll be on the lookout for a healthy queen, bees busy making honey, pollen stores and more. Expect to be fascinated, in awe and possibly fall in love with these little ladies by the time the workshop is over. You'll start to notice honeybees all over the city once you know what to look for!
About Tori Coleman: Tori has been a beekeeper for four years. They first worked with bees at Raymapu Miel in Chile, learning to beekeep in harmony with a biodiverse ecosystem. They then returned to San Diego and mentored under Hilary of Girl Next Door Honey catching swarms, performing live bee removals, and learning the principles of foundationless beekeeping. Tori worked closely with Sacred Beeometry to manage hives throughout San Diego, before moving to New York City where they have since managed 17 beehives across several boroughs. Tori is passionate about sustainability in beekeeping, public greenspace expansion, and riding their bicycle!
