SCHOLARSHIPS | CANCELLATION POLICY | MASK POLICY | PROOF OF VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS| WEATHER & COVID POLICY | BROOKLYN GRANGE COVID SAFETY PRACTICESIn this intro class on propagation Farmer Jane will discuss the botany of a seed, what a seed needs to germinate, the difference between asexual and sexual propagation, and the basic techniques of sowing trays and the materials needed. She’ll give demonstrations of a few different propagation processes- both the DIY at-home and more traditional greenhouse methods. For the community gardener and home gardener alike, this class will be a hands-on exploration into seed starting and seedling care so you can get that summer garden bursting with flavor, beauty, and love that you’ve nurtured from soil to sun! All attendees will be sent a resource list so you can start your seeds at home. Class will include live demos and each student will take home a seedling or two!

About Jane Scruggs: Originally hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas Jane has spent the better part of the past decade diving deep into the world of horticulture and urban agriculture through various training programs all around New York City. After enrolling in the horticulture certificate program at the New York Botanic Garden, Jane couldn’t wait to get her hands in the dirt, so she started volunteering at the Edible Schoolyard. There she found a mentor and a space to test out everything she was learning in her classes at NYBG. Shortly thereafter Jane took a position as an Americorps with New York Restoration Project where she gained invaluable knowledge of NYC native plants and trees. But quickly Jane realized her true calling was in growing food so she left NYC to try her hand working a full season on an organic vegetable farm in North Carolina. We’re happy she did because that’s where Jane discovered her love of working in the greenhouse. Once back in NYC and always ready to learn more, Jane decided to enroll in the Farm School NYC certificate program. In her spare time, Jane can be found volunteering at the Kelly Street Community Garden near her home in the South Bronx, growing food and giving it away to community members, doing yoga, or playing with her cat Chloë.
